Gemmological institute China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) is a unit of teaching and R&D, the central task of which is gemmological education.

  The gemmological institute started gemmological certificate courses of British Jewellers' Association by cooperating with it in 1989. The gemmological institute is a institute which introduced into international advanced gemmological education system earliest inland, which accelerated the paces of gemmological educational development greatly. On the basis of studying international modern gemological theory and skill, gemmological institute has started independent gemmological and diamond courses, has created GIC brand, and has trained a large number of professional people in jewellery industry. Since 1993, there have been 1408 persons who have got certificates of GIC gemmology, diamond grading, jewellery design technology, jewellery design technology and so on. At the same time, the gemmological institute is one of three designated training centers before the test of quality inspection division of jewellery and jade in the country.

  The gemmological institute has undertaken the task of undergraduate's gemmological education since 1994. With formal approval by Ministry of national Education in 2000, the gemmological institute set up undergraduate major in gem and material technology facing market and future. Now, we recruited undergraduate in two directions. One is gem and material technology, the other is jewellery design technology. At the same time, we also trained further master and doctors in the direction of gemmology. There are master degree candidates to graduate every year. In addition, we also trained students majored in gemmology through adult education and network education. In this case, multi-level gemmological education system has formed.

  There are many famous influential experts in gemmological institute. Now, there are full-time and part-time teachers who have senior titles such as professor and associate professor, comprised of 77.8%. Teachers who have degree above master's degree comprised of 61%. Teachers who have doctor degree accounted for 22%. All of above formed a teacher ranks, who have proficient professional quality, high academic level and are loving the job.

  For many years, gemmological institute have carried out scientific research about gemmology and academic exchange in domestic and international. We have gotten some important achievements in the fields of diamond, emerald, coloured gem, and organic gem like pearl. Gemmological academic journals "Journal of Gem ＆ Gemmology" based on gemmological institute and gemmological academic annual meeting regularly held in Wuhan provided important positions for academic exchange in domestic and international.

  Teaching building of 4000 square meters newly built up by gemmological institute is equipment with advanced teaching laboratory and scientific equipment. The gemmological institute set up jewellery test center of cug, quality supervision inspection station of jewellery and jade in Hubei province, silver jewellery inspection station in Wuhan, gem commerce base, research center of gem identify equipment, jewellery design and production center and so on. Making full use of learning knowledge, technology and all kinds of advanced equipment, we provide service about jewellery test, gem identify equipment, jewellery sales and consultant to Hubei province, even to the whole country.
